| Choosing
the Right Preschool for Your Child

Most preschools accept children
between the ages of 3 and 5 years
old. It is important for parents
to find the right preschool that
meets their expectations and most
importantly, is a good fit for
their child’s developmental
needs to transition into kindergarten.
Most parents begin their search
for early education about a year
in advance. The first step is
to determine your family needs.
Are you looking for full-time
or part-time? Should the location
be close to home or work? Do you
prefer private, public or religious
schools? It is best to find a
school that reflects your parenting
style—traditional, structured
or casual—to keep school
and home disciplines similar.
Once you know what you are looking
for, it is time to research preschools.
Parents should always be able
to show up at a preschool unannounced.
This will give you the best idea
of a day-to-day routine at the
school. Boys Town Pediatrics recommends
parents look for the following:
- Low teacher
to student ratio
- Health and
safety of the facility
- Access to
a variety of learning activities
- One-on-one
teacher interaction with children
- Teacher certifications
and school accreditations
The best reassurance
that you have found the right
preschool for your child is that
your child enjoys attending, talks
about his friends at preschool
and wants to share her daily adventures. |
