Getting Tested for Learning Disorders
My child is having alot of difficulty in school, she is behind the other children in reading and writing. She says she hates school and cannot seem to stay out of trouble at school, the main thing is not listening/getting out of her seat and not wanting to follow instruction. I have a hard time at home getting her to work too. She seems to get frustrated with it, She is writing words, letters and numbers backwards and has almost illegible handwriting. I want to have her tested for learning disorders but I am not sure where to start. A friend told me that an Occupational Therapist would help but I am wondering if I should have her tested first. I am a single mother so finances are hard too. Do you have any suggestions on what I can to to help my child? |

Thanks for contacting us regarding the problems that your daughter is having. Is sounds like you have legitimate concerns about your her difficulties in school. Our first recommendation would be to talk to her teacher(s) or school administrators. They should be able to help her get the appropriate testing needed to identify any learning or behavioral issues that she might have. You can also talk to her pediatrician if you feel that her problems are related to any medical conditions.
It is great that you are willing to address your daughter's situation. Once you identify what the problem is, you can work toward finding solutions to help her. By getting her help at an early age, you can help set her up for future success and avoid potential problems as she grows older!
Let us know if you need additional help, take care!
