Son Is Using Marijuana and Ecstasy
I just found out that my son is using marijuana and ecstasy with his friends. His father and I tried to talk to him but it seems hopeless. I fear he is lost and no matter what I say, he is not going to stop until it is too late. I need help dealing with this situation and would appreciate any advise. I took his phone away and he is rebelling. Not sure what to do next and afraid he has crossed the boundary with his father and myself. Extremely stressed and worried. |

Thanks for contacting the hotline; it is great that you are reaching out! We are so sorry to hear about the frustrations that you are having with your son. Parenting is definitely a full time job without any benefits at times. We try so hard as parents to teach our children between right and wrong and it hurts when they make poor decisions for themselves when they should know better.
Never give up hope! There are people that are able and willing to help you with what is going on. Have you considered talking to your son’s school counselor? The school counselor can be a great way to get things started and they can open up several different avenues in your area for help. Another good idea is to look into some outpatient substance abuse counseling, unless you feel your son’s addiction would benefit more from inpatient. We would be happy to give you referrals in your area that could help you, just give us your city and state. Also, all of you may benefit from family counseling; this way you can have someone mediate your problem solving.
We also want to give you some national numbers that are available to you. These numbers will refer you to places that can help you in your area.
Alanon, (888) 425-2666, this is a number offers information on support groups for people whose lives have been affected by someone else's addiction and available from 8am-6pm (EST) Monday-Friday.
Families Anonymous, Inc, (800) 736-9805, this number offers support for families and friends concerned about the use or abuse of drugs or alcohol by a loved one and available from 10am-4pm (PST) Monday–Thursday and 10am-2pm (PST) Friday.
Alcohol and Drug Helpline, (800) 821-4357, provides information and referrals for drug and alcohol issues available 24 hrs a day.
Hopefully, this has been of some help to you. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with. Please get back to us as soon as you can to let us know how things are going. Always know that we have counselors available to take your call!
Take Care,
Andria, Crisis Counselor
